FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team hits the road again to take part in the USC Upstate Tournament in Spartanburg, South Carolina. USC Upstate, Furman, Radford, and Western Carolina will also participate in the tournament this weekend. However, the Patriots will only play USC Upstate, Furman, and Radford, all on Friday and Saturday.

SOFTBALL vs. USC Upstate (DH)
WHEN: Friday, 2/13 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. WHERE: Spartanburg, South Carolina RECORDS: George Mason (0-5), USC Upstate (1-1) SERIES RECORD: Mason trails 1-7

USC Upstate has started off the season 1-1 after finishing with an impressive record of 46-9 last year. The Spartans took the game against the Patriots last season 3-2. So far this season, USC Upstate has beaten Radford 9-1 in six innings and lost to Elon 4-3.
Shellie Robinson leads the Spartans with a .667 average, one homerun and four RBI through just two games. Cheyenne Griffin has also picked up four RBI on the season as well. Pitcher Lexi Shubert returns for USC Upstate this season and has a 1-0 record with just a .88 ERA in two appearances.

Notes:
Furman opens its 2015 season with the USC Upstate Tournament this weekend. They open with a doubleheader against Radford on Friday before taking on the Patriots on Saturday. Last season the Paladins went 29-26 and 12-6 in conference play.
Elise Smith returns after finishing second on the team with a .286 batting average with four homeruns and 21 RBI. Pitcher Lauren Collier also returns after finishing last season with an 18-13 record and a 2.91 ERA.
