FAIRFAX, Va. - GoMason.com spoke with freshman Brooke Sullivan, who attended Big Spring High School in Newville, Pennsylvania.  Sullivan earned three letters in volleyball and two letters in softball while at Big Spring.  The honor roll member was the Vice President of FBLA and was selected as the S.B. Hewlett Business award winner.  Sullivan was named the 2014 MVP of the varsity softball team and she finished runner-up at the 2014 ASA Eastern Nationals.

“Brooke is one of those players you have to have on your team.  Her enthusiasm, grit and determination are contagious and will help drive a team to excellence,” said Head Coach Joe Verbanic.  “She is a versatile athlete who will focus on catching for now, but can contribute in a variety of ways.”

GoMason.com:  Why did you choose Mason?

Sullivan: I chose Mason for many different reasons. From the first time that I stepped on campus, I knew that this school was a great fit for me. I am a sport management major here and the internships that are available for me are unlimited. Being so close, yet a healthy distance away from D.C is a great addition to Mason. Being a part of the softball program here is allowing me to make many more friendships. It's like having a home away from home.

GoMason.com:  What are your goals for the season?

Sullivan: My goals for this season would include playing each game to the best of our ability. Our team also has a goal of making it to the A-10 tournament. As an individual, I am continuing to become a stronger and smarter softball player.

GoMason.com:  What is your biggest accomplishment to date?

Sullivan: My biggest accomplishment would be being a part of the Big Spring High School 2012 PIAA AAA State Championship team. This is and always will be a highlight in my softball career.

GoMason.com:  What is your favorite softball memory, on or off the field?

Sullivan: My favorite softball memory is the amount of endless, lifetime friendships that I have made since I was ten years old. Softball has been a great way for me to be social and create many friendships that will never end.

GoMason.com:  If you couldn't play softball, what sport would you play?

Sullivan: If I couldn't play softball, I would spend my time playing volleyball. I love the sport, but I had to give it up because of possible injury.

GoMason.com:  How have you been preparing for the upcoming season?

Sullivan: I have been getting stronger and smarter as a ball player. As a team we have and are continuing to work very hard in the weight room. We are also working closely with a sport psychologist to become more mentally tough.

GoMason.com:  What is one thing fans should know about you?

Sullivan: If you are in attendance of a home game and you happen to see a younger aged girl running around collecting foul balls, there's a pretty good chance it is my little sister, Emilee. She plays softball and basketball. She is nicknamed “10-year old Sully” from the rest of the softball team. Emilee is my only sibling and my true best friend.

GoMason.com:  Some favorites... Food? TV show/movie? Song? Athlete?

Sullivan: My favorite food is Panera's broccoli cheddar soup. I also love all fruits. I am huge apple and orange fan. My favorite movies would have to include: Angels in the Outfield, Bridge of Terabitha, We Bought a Zoo, Frozen, and Happy Feet. I also have multiple favorite athletes. I am a huge Seattle Seahawks fan, so of course I love Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson.  I also love Chase Utley and Carlos Ruiz.
