Fairfax, Va.- The George Mason University Patriots finished the Patriot Invitational Saturday, with the women's team earning fourth place and the men's team finishing in fifth. Junior Sydney Fisher won two events for the Patriots Saturday, the 100 yard individual medley and the 100 yard freestyle.
Winning the Patriot Invitational was the University of North Carolina Wilmington women who finished with 793 points, 185 points more than the next closest team. The University of Maryland Baltimore County men were able to continue their success and overall lead from Friday, finishing first overall with a total of 844.50 points.
Fisher had a fantastic weekend and led the way for the Patriot women throughout the invitational. Fisher won three races, one on Thursday, and finished in third place in the 100 yard butterfly on Friday.
Sophomore Craig Steven finished third in the men's 1650 yard freestyle competition, representing the men's best individual performance of the day on Saturday. Fellow sophomore Alec Morin finished in fourth place in the 100 yard freestyle race. Both Morin and Steven contributed to a men's third place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay, as well.
In the 200 yard breaststroke event, junior Sarah Brallier was able to improve her time from the prelims to the finals by over two seconds. This progress helped her to a third place finish in the race. Sophomore Dorothy Reilly also earned a third place finish on Saturday, finishing the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.46.
This finish was just over three seconds behind first place winner Richmond's Melissa Ross.
After this home meet, the Patriots will travel across the country to Seattle, Washington for the Winter Nationals competition. The meet will take place beginning on Wednesday, December 2 and go through Friday, December 4. This will be the last meet for Mason in the year 2015.
