Fairfax, Va. - George Mason University's men's cross country was tabbed No. 14 in the Southeast Region in the latest ranking released by the the USTFCCCA.
Mason was one of only two teams that retained their ranking from last week after winning its home meet at the Oatlands Plantation, the other one being Virginia, which occupies the top spot in the region for fifth consecutive week, dating back to the preseason ranking.
The first change to the ranking comes with NC State taking over the No. 2 spot at the expense of Furman, which dropped to No. 4, their lowest ranking this season. Louisville completes the Atlantic Coast Conference dominance in the top three of the region after making a jump of three positions after last week, while ACC rival Virginia Tech also broke in the top five.
The Ohio Valley Conference's sole representative in the ranking - Eastern Kentucky - sits in the No. 6 position, followed by Duke, which made the biggest jump among teams ranked last week as well after being No. 11 last week. After the Blue Devils comes Campbell, which broke into the top 15 in the Southeast after impressing at the highly competitive Panorama Farms Invitational, where it finished fifth among 16 Division I teams, some of which found a place in the ranking as well. The top 10 is rounded off by two teams who lost positions this week - Kentucky, which was No. 8 last week, and North Carolina, which plummeted five positions after featuring in the top five in the last edition of the ranking.
William and Mary marked progress and is now only a step away from the top 10 at No. 11. Big South duo Liberty and High Point are again back-to-back in the rankings, but this time out of the top 10, as No. 12 and No. 13, respectively. The ranking is completed with another newcomer, Clemson, which won the five-mile race at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational over the weekend.
