The men's and women's swimming & diving team each closed out the regular season portion of their schedule with victories over George Washington in Washington, D.C. on Saturday afternoon.
The men (5-4) handed the Colonials a 165-90 defeat and the women (3-6) a 166-99 victory over GW.
The dual started off with victories for both the men's and women's 200-yard freestyle relay teams in times of 1:34.66 and 1:47.29, respectively. Jesse Burnley, Johann Shim, Travis Lauri and Alec Morin swam for the men while Kelsey Sorensen, Amy Tansill, Sydney Fisher and Rachel Williams got the job done for the women.
Burnley was one of several swimmers to have a strong day in the water, winning one additional relay and two individual events. He took the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:43.96 and the 100-yard freestyle in a mark of 47.17. He was a winner in the 400-yard freestyle relay with the help of Daniel Camozzo, Morin and Lauri.
Lauri and Morin earned the top two spots in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 21.01 and 22.04, respectively. Camozzo was a winner in the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.22), Caleb Williams a winner in the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.37) and Steven Craig a winner in the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.73).
Steff Maurer earned first place in two events, the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.89) and the 50-yard freestyle (24.95) while placing second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.95) behind first place Kara Tansill (2:06.74). Sister Amy Tansill won the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:07.41.
Madison Baker joined Maurer with two individual victories, winning the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.79) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.41) while taking second in the 200-yard freestyle behind Maurer. Kelsey Sorensen (100-yard backstroke, 58.25) and Sarah Brallier (200-yard breaststroke, 2:24.84) each had first place finishes as well.
On the diving board, Veronica Canada and Paul Helfgott won the one and three-meter competitions.
The Patriots will continue training up until Atlantic 10 Championships in Geneva, Ohio from February 18-21.
