The George Mason golf team finished their first tournament of the season in 15th place overall at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate. Mason finished with a three-round 893 (297-296-300).
Sophomore Kyle Hart and freshman Ellis Messian led the Patriots with a 54-hole seven-over 223. Hart recorded four birdies today. After a 78 first round score to begin his collegiate career, Messian responded with a two-over par 74 second-round score and a team-best one-under par in the final round. He birdied three of his last six holes today to card a two-under 34 on the front nine. He also recorded an eagle on the Par 5 hole 17.
Senior Zack Lauzon finished with a three-round 225. He was two-over par 146 (72-74) before scoring a 76 today. Freshman Brock Kovach finished his first collegiate tournament with a 227 (73-75-79). The third freshman in the line-up this weekend bested his score on each round finishing with a 234 (84-76-74).
Host North Carolina won its first tournament of the season with a score of 26-under-par 838. Freshman Tar Heel Ben Griffin took home his first collegiate title with a score of 10-under 206.
The Patriots travel to Richmond next for the VCU Shootout September 22 and 23rd.
