The George Mason men's golf team will open the 2014-15 season this weekend at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate which will be played at UNC Finley Golf Course, a par 72, 7,242-yard layout. The 18-team event will feature 18 holes played each day beginning at 8 a.m. off the #1 tee and 8:30 off the #10 tee.
The Patriots season tees off with six freshmen on the 10-member team. Three freshmen; Ellis Messian, Brock Kovach and Eric Edwards will be making their collegiate debuts this weekend. The rest of the line-up is comprised of two seniors, one junior and a sophomore.
The returners are led by senior and captain Zack Lauzon, who averaged 75.70 strokes per round in 10 tournaments and earned one top 20 finish as a junior. Junior Mark Folkwein earned a runner-up medal in the 2013 Patriot Collegiate. He played in nine tournaments last season and finished with a 77.36 stroke average. Sophomore Kyle Hart contributed with one top 20 finish in nine tournaments with a 76.92 stroke average. Senior Andrew Brenneman rounds out the returners. He participated in nine tournaments last season.
