The foundation to George Mason Athletics, the Field House is currently undergoing a $6 million renovation project during the 2014 summer. Already home to an indoor track, locker rooms, basketball courts, indoor multi-purpose facility, Frank Pettrone Center for Sports Performance and coaches and administrative offices, the Field House will boast several new features. Upon completion, the Field House will feature a new canopy front entrance, a brand new strength and conditioning center, remodeled lobby, side promenade and upgrades throughout the 110,000 square-foot facility.

Upon arrival to the Field House, visitors will be welcomed with a new canopy entrance featuring Mason branding and graphics. Several trophy cases will highlight a remodeled front lobby which will also contain a welcome reception area and Mason graphics. A portion of the lobby will double as an event room with a backdrop of Mason's accomplishments.

A new pedestrian promenade on the west side of the Field House will provide a safe connection from the West Campus Connector shuttle stop to the main entrance of the Field House. Decorative pavers, new landscaping and street lamps with Mason banners will enhance the promenade. Screen walls with Mason athletics graphics will enclose the promenade from the George Mason Stadium and Field House. The shuttle stop will be added to the south end of the Field House in conjunction with the new west campus drive underpass expected to be completed in December.

One of the largest renovation projects will take place in the strength and conditioning area which will be remodeled in two expansion stages. The first stage in the main weight room will expand the existing space to increase student-athlete mobility by removing a separator wall, opening the ceiling space, demolition of the reception area and offices. The completed project will feature rubberized flooring, storefront glass, new lighting, new fans and upgraded equipment. The second expansion stage of the weight room will add a 600-square foot adjoining room to the area where a state-of-the-art 20 foot wide by 10 foot long training sand pit will be located to improve balance and power of Mason's students-athletes using jumping drills, ladder drills and agility work.

Overall upgrades to the facility include replacement of mechanical HVAC units and new bleachers on the indoor track. The men's and women's locker rooms located inside the Field House will be painted and have air conditioning units installed.

The $5 million renovation project is expected to be completed in mid-fall. The final completion will not only add square feet to the weight room, thereby enhancing student-athletes' opportunity to reach their potential on and off the playing surface, but the Field House and athletic complex will have a direct connection to main campus through the West Campus underpass.
