MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Canada - The United States dominated the Junior Pan American Championships on Friday, winning six of the eight gold medals.
Individual champions for the United States included:
• Michael Beck of Ellicott City, Md. at 50 kg/110 lbs.
• Joshua Rodriguez of Guadelupe, Calif. at 60 kg/132 lbs.
• Jake Short of Inver Grove Heights, Minn. at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.
• Ricky Robertson of Tinley Park, Ill. at 84 kg/185 lbs.
• Troy Hembury of Muncy, Pa. at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
• Garrett Ryan of Scottsdale, Ariz., at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.
"The guys represented their country well. They were aggressive and dominant. I was pleased with their composure especially since most had no international experience,” said U.S. Greco-Roman and George Mason Coach
Joe Russell of Fairfax, Va.
Rodriguez, Short, Robertson and Ryan went unbeaten in roundrobin competitions in their weight classes. Hembury had one opponent in his division, who he beat in the finals. Beck won his weight class uncontested.
All of the American men also wrestled in freestyle on Sunday.
