The Patriots track and field team wrapped up competition at the ECAC-IC4A Outdoor championships Sunday led by a first place finish from the men's 4x400m relay team of Angel Coburn, Adrian Vaughn, George Empty and Zamier Johnson with a time of 3:07.91.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Ayo Raymond, Vaughn, Da'Quan Smalls and Bernard Freeman finished fifth with a time of 41.02. Vaughn also performed well in his individual events, finishing second in the 200m dash with a time of 21.08. After setting a personal record in qualifying heat for the 1500m run with a time of 3:52.03, Alex Ott finished sixth overall with a time of 3:52.03, rounding out the track performances, Empty finished fourth in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 51.91.
In the field events, Byron Sintim finished ninth with a mark of 7.08m and Jimi Tele took ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.58m.
The women were led on the track by senior Daianna Barron and junior Shavon Briscoe who placed second in their respective events. Briscoe earned eight points for Mason with a second place finish in the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.81. Barron took second in the 400m dash and set a new personal record with a mark of 53.67, putting her at ninth place on Mason's All-Time list. Fellow senior Dominique Graham set a new personal record in the 400m qualifier with a time of 54.19 and finished seventh in the finals with a time of 54.70 bringing in two points for the green and gold.
Bethany Sachtleben was the first Patriots to earn points Friday night with a sixth place finish in the 5,000m run in a time of 16:26.82. Sachtleben also competed in the 3,000m run Sunday afternoon finishing fourth with a personal record time of 9:39.41.
Mason had several top 10 finishes in field events as well this weekend. Graham finished ninth overall in the high jump with a mark of 1.68m and freshman Chantel Richardson took ninth in the long jump with a mark of 5.71m. Junior Amanda Denger finished seventh overall in the women's heptathlon with 4890 points.
