Blankenship and Webb Selected to NFCA All-Region Second Team

FAIRFAX, Virginia – Brooke Blankenship and Tiffany Webb have been selected to the NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team.  Earlier this month, Blankenship and Webb were named to the A-10 All-Conference First Team.  Webb and Blankenship finished with the first and second best batting average in the entire conference this season.

Hailing from Glen Allen, Virginia, Blankenship had a terrific year for the Patriots.  Blankenship finished the season with a .394 batting average, which ranks second in the A-10.  The third basemen led the Patriot team with a .701 slugging percentage, which ranks second in George Mason history.  Blankenship also ranks second all-time after recording 49 RBI on the year.  The junior also had a team-best seven home runs and 12 steals.  Her seven home runs rank second all-time in George Mason history.  Blankenship has also set a new record for on-base percentage, ending the season with a team-leading .479 percentage.  Blankenship was also selected as the A-10 player of the Week once this season.

Hailing from Smithfield, Virginia, Webb led the entire conference with a .398 batting average to cap off an amazing final season.  Webb's impressive batting average ranks second best in George Mason history.  The senior finished the season with three triples, which ranked second in the A-10 conference.  Webb was also one of the hardest batters to get out in the conference, striking out just six times all year.  The right fielder had an impressive .474 slugging percentage and a .434 on-base percentage this season to help the Patriot offense cap off a great year.

The Patriots finished the season with a 22-21 record.  Webb and Blankenship helped the Patriot offense finish with its second best team batting average in George Mason history.  

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected for each region. The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2014 NFCA Division I All-American teams. The 2014 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 28, via NFCA.org.
