FAIRFAX, Virginia - The George Mason softball team sweeps rival George Washington in an A-10 doubleheader.  The Patriots improve its record to 15-14 on the season, while George Washington falls to 14-22-1.  This win marks the seventh win for Mason in its last eight games.

George Mason also increases its lead to 8-6 in the Revolutionary Rivalry against George Washington.

Game 1:

Mason continued its hot hitting in the first inning of game one against the Colonials.  After Julia Czarnecki singled and advanced to second on an error, Casey Price hit a rocket down the third base line to pick up the RBI.

The hitting continued in the third inning for the Patriots with a Tiffany Webb single.  After Brooke Blankenship walked, Casey Price smashed a double to right center to bring in both runners.  Price wasn't done for the day, as she would eventually hit a ground-rule double to left field to pick up two more RBI in the sixth inning.  Webb also singled to left center to pick up an RBI and add to the lead going into the seventh (8-2).

Anna Blessing closed out the game and pitched a complete game for the Green and Gold.  Blessing was terrific in a game where she only gave up three hits and zero earned runs.

Czarnecki, Webb, and Price all had multiple hits each in the first game.  Price had one of her best games of the season, going three for three with five RBI.

Megan Linn picked up the only RBI for the Colonials, while Paige Kovalsky finished with two hits.  Meghan Rico picked up the loss for George Washington after pitching 5.2 innings and giving up four earned runs and 10 hits.

Game 2:

Game two of the Revolutionary Rivalry was more of the same for the Patriots.   After going down by four, in the bottom of the second innings, the Patriots scored five runs to take the lead.  Tiffany Webb was crucial to that comeback after picking up two RBI on a double to right center.  Brooke Blankenship also picked up two RBI on a single for the Patriots.

The Patriots added to its lead in the fourth inning after Casey Price, Webb, and Blankenship loaded the bases, and Lauren McColgan walked to bring in a run.  Walks were a big story in game two as the Colonials walked the Patriots 12 times in the game.  The Green and Gold would go on to score another run in the fifth inning and win a close one 8-5.

Casey Herring pitched an impressive complete game for the Patriots.  Herring gave up just one earned run and had four strike outs.

Megan Linn led the Colonials on offense, finishing with three hits and one RBI.  Paige Kovalsky also had a good game, finishing with one hit and three RBI.  Kovalsky also got the start at pitcher for George Washington, but only pitched 1.1 innings.  Despite letting in five runs, zero were earned for Kovalsky.  Meghan Rico and Courtney Martin also pitched in the game and gave up a combined three earned runs.

Up Next: The Patriots travel to La Salle for another A-10 doubleheader on Saturday, April 12. After La Salle, Mason comes home for a 10-game stretch.
