With a 4-3 win over Atlantic 10 Conference opponent St. Joseph's the Patriots have now won six straight matches.
The Patriots won at both #1 and #3 doubles to secure the first point of the match. Seniors Jimmy Davis and Chris Borden beat Tristan Boustany and Paranjay Malhotra 8-2 at three doubles, and junior Joe Hill and Freshmen Jimmy Lange scored an 8-6 win over Jose Sierra and Pierre Brondeau at one doubles. Senior Taylor Sargent and sophomore Tanner Baine lost 8-2 to Andreas Urrea and Kyle Chalmers at #2 doubles.
At the top singles, Jimmy Davis lost to Jose Sierra 6-0, 7-6 (5), and Jimmy Lange fell to Andreas Urrea in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at #3 singles. Joe Hill, playing #2 won the Patriots first singles match in a 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 battle with the Hawks Pierre Brondeau. The #4 singles match also went the distance as sophomore Aaron Capitel beat Kyle Chalmers 6-7 (8), 6-4, 6-1. Patriot sophomore Nick Barker fell to Tristan Boustany 6-2, 6-3 at #5 singles as the Hawks evened the match at 3-3.
With the match on the line sophomore Tanner Baine playing #6 singles for the Patriots scored a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jason Sisti to clinch the victory for Mason Tennis.
" Today we had two evenly matched teams playing all out, and that made for great college tennis," said Coach Quam. "Three matches went to three sets. Our guys were able to win two of those three which was the margin that gave us the win."
The Patriots improved to 12-6 overall, 3-1 in the Atlantic 10. They are in action again at home on April 10 playing A-10 opponent University of Richmond at 3:00 p.m. Senior Day is Sunday April 13 against La Salle. Seniors Jimmy Davis, Taylor Sargent and Chris Borden will be honored prior to the start of the match at Noon.
