Men's tennis captured it's 11th win of the season, beating Mount Saint Mary's 6-1 at the Mason Tennis Center. The win marks the fifth in a row for the Patriots.
Mason won the doubles point with wins at one and three doubles. Junior Joe Hill and Freshman Jimmy Lange beat the Mountaineers number one team of Peter Salomon and Louis Tonon 8-0. Austin Blake and Mike Zabetakis of the Mount fell to Mason's three doubles team, Seniors Jimmy Davis and Chris Borden 8-3. The Mount's Adam Salam and Mateo Desommocurcio won at two doubles over Senior Taylor Sargent and Sophomore Tanner Baine 8-6.
The Patriots took five of the six singles matches. Joe Hill returned to his winning ways at two singles, scoring a 6-3, 6-0 win over Adan Salam of the Mount. At the four singles Sophomore Aaron Capitel also won in straight sets, beating Peter Salomon 6-1, 6-4. Jimmy Lange beat Mateo DeSommocurio 6-4, 6-2 at three singles to clinch the match for the Patriots.
The rest of the singles matches all went to three sets. The patriots Jimmy Davis pulled out a win over Austin Blake 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at one singles, and Taylor Sargent, down 8-3 in the super breaker for the third, won six of the next seven points to even the breaker at 9-9. Sargent went on to claim the tiebreaker for a 7-6 (1), 4-6, 12-10 win over Darren Mast at six singles. At five singles Junior Nick Barker fell to Mike Zabetakis of the Mount 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
"We have won three very competitive matches in three days. We are heading into four big conference matches this week, and these past three days of tennis have prepared us well for what lies ahead." said coach Quam.
The Patriots are in action again on Tuesday April 8 at home playing Saint Josephs. Match time is 2:00 pm.
