Seniors Rachel Obregon and Caitlin McGinn each scored four goals for the Patriots, but it wasn't enough Sunday afternoon as Mason (7-4, 1-1 A-10) fell 21-13 to Duquesne (11-1, 2-0 A-10) at home.
The Dukes took a quick 3-0 lead thanks to three unanswered goals in less than three minutes before Obregon would score her first goal of the day in the third minute of play. The Dukes' Clare Hurley would respond, but McGinn found the back of the net to make it 4-2 with just over 26 minutes remaining in the first half.
Obregon would score three more times in the first half to reach her game total and cause the Dukes to up their coverage on the Patriots' captain in the second half.
After heading into the break, down 13-6 the Patriots rallied with four unanswered goals to make it 13-10 with just over 20 minutes to play. However, the Dukes once against responded with four goals of their own to push their lead out to 17-10 with over 13 minutes to play.
The Dukes would outscore mason 4-2 over the last 10 minutes of play to take the 21-13 victory.
In addition to the four goals from Obregon and McGinn the Patriots got two goals from Katie Mascolo and one each from Kirstin Russell, Jacquelyn Spalding and Gina Purdue.
Duquesne was led by Amanda Kidder with six goals on six shots and got multiple goals from five other players.
The Patriots begin a three game road trip when they head to Richmond to take on the Spider April 11th at 4:30 p.m.
