Round one is in the books at the Atlantic 10 Golf Championship and the Patriots are in fifth place after shooting a team 307, three strokes off of fourth-place George Washington. The three-round event is being played at par 71, 6,898 yard TPC Tampa Bay through Sunday.
Junior Andrew Brenneman carded a three-over par 74 to lead the Patriots on day one. He was two-over par at the turn, recording two birdies and two bogeys, along with a double-bogey. He had a bogey on holes #11 and #15 before dropping in a birdie on 17. Senior Kevin Yerks started the day with four bogeys through the first six holes. He settled in after that and strung together 11 straight pars before his last bogey on #18 to finish with a 76.
Junior Zack Lauzon carded a seven-over par 78, and Mark Folkwein finished with a 79 to round out the scoring for Mason. Freshman Kyle Hart recorded a score of 80.
The Patriots are back on the tee tomorrow starting at 9:00 a.m.
