The Mason men's golf team  traveled to Florida this weekend to participate in the Atlantic 10 Golf Championship. The three-round event will be played at par 71, 6,898 yard TPC Tampa Bay today through Sunday.

In a poll earlier this month, VCU was the unanimous selection to capture the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference men's golf Championship. Mason was selected fifth in the 10-team event.

The Patriots are led by senior Kevin Yerks with a 75.14 stroke average. He played in 10 of 11 tournaments for the Green and Gold this season and had two top 20 finishes. Junior Zack Lauzon averaged 75.70 strokes per round in 10 tournaments and earned one top 20 finish. Freshman Kyle Hart contributed with one top 20 finish in nine tournaments with a 76.92 stroke average. Sophomore Mark Folkwein earned a runner-up medal in the Patriot Collegiate. He played in nine tournaments and finished with a 77.36 stroke average.

The Rams received all 10 first-place votes in a poll of the league's 10 head coaches. VCU, which has already won two in-season tournaments through the Fall and Spring, finished second in last year's A-10 Championship.

Richmond was picked to finish second with 89 points in the poll, garnering nine of 10 second-place votes. The Spiders finished fifth in the 2013 championship.

Rhode Island was picked third with 73 points, followed by Dayton with 61 points. La Salle tallied 48 points to finish sixth.

George Washington, which won the championship in 2012 was seventh in the polling, followed by St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's and Fordham.

The 2014 Championship will be played at TPC Tampa Bay in Lutz, Fla., April 25-27. Admission to the championship is free.
