MASON, Ohio—Sixth-seeded Saint Joseph's defeated No. 11 George Mason 4-0 to advance to the Quarterfinals at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship at Lindner Family Tennis Center Thursday.
The Hawks (16-7) won the doubles point and captured No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles to clinch the match. Aurora Davis defeated Mason's Brittany Pilkington, 6-1, 6-2 at No.1 singles and also won at No.1 doubles with partner Alex Zachem, 8-6 over Pilkington and Ashley Delaney.
Kristina Eissenbrand won at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3 over Morgan Yang and Arianne Polatnick defeated Mina Saygi at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Devi Jadeja and Kelly Mulquin captured the other SJU doubles win at No. 3 with an 8-2 victory over Mina Saygi and Marijke Boers of Mason (9-17).
Delaney and Olivia Lacy-Thompson were both leading in their matches against the Hawks while Esu Erdenebat was in a close battle at No. 4 singles.
"The doubles point was crucial for us" commented Coach Stephen Curtis. "I am confident that Ashley, Olivia and Esu would have won their matches. Since we didn't get to compete in a conference championship last year this was a good experience for this young team."
The Hawks will face No. 3 George Washington in the quarterfinals Friday at 1:00 pm.
