The Mason women's tennis team closed out the regular season with a loss at George Washington, 6-1. The Patriots will travel to the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, OH next week for the A-10 Championships.
Mason fell short on the doubles point as the only win was at number one as Morgan Yang and Olivia Lacy-Thompson served well and defeated their Colonial opponents, Isabella Escobar and Taylor Nederlander 8-4. The number two and three teams both fell to their opponents 8-3.
The Colonials came out strong in singles and quickly took control of the match by wins at number one and six. They pulled ahead 5-0, but the two Patriots remaining on court continued to battle. Senior Ashley Delaney eventually fell to Taylor Nederlander in two very tight sets, 7-6, 6-3. Esu Erdenebat, playing at the number five position, came up with Mason's only point when she defeated Isabella Escobar 7-6, 6-4.
"I was very pleased with Esu's play today," commented Coach Stephen Curtis. "I think she has fully recovered from her ankle injury. Ashley also played very well in her match and Morgan and Olivia played some tough doubles."
The team awaits their seeding position for the A-10 Championships, which will be announced Monday afternoon.
