The George Mason softball team starts its five-team home stand against Coppin State on Wednesday. The Patriots most recently lost to La Salle in Philadelphia. Despite the losses, the Patriots have still won seven out of its last 10.
The Last time the Patriots took on Coppin State was in 2008. Mason swept the Eagles in a two-game series. The Green and Gold won 27-0 and 27-1 in the doubleheader.
Tiffany Webb leads the Patriots with a .419 batting average on the season, which ranks second in all of the A-10. Brooke Blankenship has a team-best four home runs and 32 RBI on a .386 batting average.
Anna Blessing leads the pitching staff with a 2.58 era and 39 strike outs. Casey Herring leads the Green and Gold with five wins on the season, while also posting a 3.35 era. Not only is Mason hitting well, but the pitching staff as a whole averages an impressive 3.18 era.
Most recently, Coppin State lost a three-game series to Delaware State. Candice Van Horn leads the Eagle offense with a .463 batting average. Van Horn also has hit eight home runs and 19 RBI this season.
Meanwhile, Alyssa Barker leads the Eagle pitching staff with a 3.96 era and 30 strike outs. Barker is 7-10 on the season and has pitched 11 complete games.
