The George Mason softball team hits the road to take on Norfolk State in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 2. The first game will start at 3:00 p.m. at the NSU Softball Field.
The Green and Gold are coming off a hitting frenzy at UVA in which they scored 32 combined runs in a doubleheader. Tiffany Webb continued her hot streak with four hits and leads the Patriots with a .415 batting average on the season. Brooke Blankenship was selected as the A-10 Player of the Week for her efforts against the Cavaliers. Blankenship hit three home runs and added 10 RBI in the doubleheader.
Anna Blessing leads the Patriot pitching staff with a team-low 2.39 era and 35 strike outs. Not only is Mason hitting well, but the pitching staff as a whole averages an impressive 2.95 era.
The Spartans are coming into this doubleheader on a seven-game win streak. NSU boasts a great hitting team that has scored 59 runs in its last four games. Morgan Boyd and Heather Dunning both lead the Spartans with a .481 batting average with a combined 75 hits between the two of them. Robyn Mitchell, who has only played in nine games, has hit five home runs and 19 RBI with a .433 batting average. The Spartans have a lot of power in its lineup, having hit 25 home runs as a team this season.
Jamie Schulle leads Norfolk State with a 2.42 era and 50 strike outs. Schulle has a 9-5 record so far this season. Stephanie Wheatley has also pitched well for the Spartans, posting a 2-4 record with a 3.43 era.
