Cleveland, Ohio – Sophomores Sahid Kargbo and Greg Flournoy each earned third place conference finishes at the Eastern Wrestling League Championships in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday. The Patriots finished seventh overall with a team score of 43.5.
Kargbo and Flournoy wrestled at their regular season weight of 141lbs. and 157lbs., respectively. Kargbo was pre-seeded third coming into the tournament and match his seed while Flournoy was seeded fourth, each winning three matches on the day. Matt Meadows was the other Patriot to be pre-seeded coming into the action, finishing fourth at his weight class of 197lbs. to match his seed number as well.
Kargbo used a first round 8-6 decision over Cleveland St.'s Jared McKinley to advance to the second round where he fell in a close 5-3 decision to second seeded Daniel Neff of Lock Haven. Kargbo would storm to victory in his next two matches en route to a third place finish with major decision victories over fourth-seeded Matthew Rappo of Bloomsburg (11-3) and McKinley for a rematch in the third place bout (13-3).
Flournoy began his day with a 9-2 victory over RJ LaBeef before falling in the second round to top-seeded Johnny Greisheimer of Edinboro 8-3. Flournoy bounced back with a 6-3 decision over Wayne Stinson from Rider before taking the third place match 3-1 over Lock Haven's Elias Biddle.
Meadows opened up the tournament defeating Danny Southerland of Clarion 5-3, a match he had also won earlier in the season 6-5. Meadows fell in the second round to top seed Richard Perry from Bloomsburg (14-6) before moving on with a win over Corbin Boone from Cleveland St. (2-0). Meadows lost in the third place match 9-0 to number two seed Vincent Pickett from Edinboro.
