FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling team left Fairfax on Thursday afternoon to participate in its inaugural Eastern Wrestling League championships on Saturday.
Mason (6-15, 0-3) is in its first year as members of the EWL. The Patriots have met with three conference opponents this season, falling to Rider (25-16), Clarion (23-12) and Bloomsburg (36-3). Sophomore Sahid Kargbo has won all three of his matches against EWL opponents this season while sophomore Matt Meadows has won two of three.
Each wrestler will be seeded prior to the championships, which take place at Cleveland St. University on Saturday, March 8. The tournament also serves as the NCAA Division I National Qualifier.
Tickets will be available at the door. All Session Adult passes are $10, while All-Session Student passes are $7. Individual session tickets will also be available. Session 1 will start at 10a.m. in a round that will feature quarterfinal action, followed by semi-finals and consolation semifinals. Session 2 starts at 5 pm and will have the consolation place bouts, the Parade of Champions, Hall of Fame ceremonies and the 10 championship bouts. The championship bouts are set to begin at 7pm.
