MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The George Mason rowing team saw solid competition on Saturday in a scrimmage against West Virginia on the Monongahela River.
The two squads competed in two flights of eights and one flight of fours, competing in a series of 4 x 1000-meter pieces and a few short high rate pieces. Both WVU and Mason won races in each race.
“This was a great opportunity for the team to race another University away from the typical busy crowded regatta,” noted head coach Ted Nagorsen. “West Virginia had a solid fan base come out and support the team on their home course. Mason rowed well in the series of 1000m pieces and the short distance pieces created very close competitive races.
“We saw some great adjustments by Mason in each piece, which was the purpose of the scrimmage,” commented Nagorsen. “A relaxed race environment allows the squads to learn more about themselves and how to make necessary adjustments. We showed a lot of maturity in their approach and willingness to find success. We will use this experience this week to prepare for our next race.”
The Patriots return to the water on their home course in the Occoquan Sprints on Sunday, April 6.
