LAKE LURE, N.C. – The George Mason rowing team wrapped up a week of training with a morning competition against the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Lake Lure.
“We had a good week of training and capped it off with a race against UNC,” noted head coach Ted Nagorsen. “The team had the opportunity to race against a solid UNC squad and I was excited to see the week's efforts come together. We look forward to continuing to work hard and are excited about the rest of the season to come.”
Racing kicked off with the varsity four as UNC captured first with a time of 8:20.73. Mason finished in 8:35.0. Next on the water was the varsity eight as the Tar Heel's took first in 6:54.36, while the Patriots crossed in 7:22.19. The second varsity eight's hit the water next as Mason finished second in 7:33.68 to UNC's first-place time of 7:13.94. The UNC novice eight finished behind Mason (7:52.49) followed by UNC's second novice eight (7:53.33).
To cap of the racing, the teams broke up their eights into fours for the final race of the day. UNC's A boat won in 7:42.27, while Mason finished in 8:10.47.
Mason returns to the water at West Virginia on Saturday, March 29. The Patriots and Tar Heels will meet twice more during the season in the Occoquan Sprints and Knecht Cup.
