MERION STATION, Pennsylvania – The George Mason softball team falls in its first A-10 games to St. Joe's in an afternoon doubleheader.  The Hawks won 9-6 in the first game and 1-0 in the second game.  The Patriots move to 8-13 on the season while the Hawks move to 9-10.

Game 1

The first A-10 game for the Patriots was an offensive thriller.  Mason continued to swing the bats well in this game, finishing with six runs on 10 hits.

After Mary O'Connor and Tiffany Webb both singled, Brooke Blankenship singled through the left side to bring in both runs and tie the game at two.  Going into the seventh inning, the Patriots were down 9-3.  Webb got another one of her three hits in the game to lead off the inning.  Blankenship then reached base after being hit by a pitch, while Casey Price got the bases loaded after hitting a single.  Angela Maioran then doubled down the left-field line to bring in all three runners.  The Patriots were unable to complete the comeback and ended up losing the game 9-6.

Anna Blessing got the start for the Patriots and ended up pitching four innings, giving up three earned runs on only five hits.  Christina Gabriele also pitched for Mason, finishing with two earned runs on four hits in two innings pitched.  Blessing picked up the loss for the Green and Gold.

Nicole Palase led the way for the Hawks offense, finishing with three RBI on three hits.  Palase also scored two runs for St. Joe's.  Meanwhile, Liz Mendez pitched six innings and gave up six earned runs on 10 hits.

Game 2

The second game was a pitching duel.  Casey Herring got the start for the Patriots and pitched all six innings.  Herring only gave up one earned run on five hits in an impressive outing.

The Patriots struggled on offense in this second game, finishing with four total hits.  However, Tiffany Webb went two for two and continued her strong hitting.  Julia Czarnecki and Casey Price also got a hit against the Hawks.

Emily Rogers pitched a terrific game for the Hawks, giving up zero earned runs and only four hits.  Meanwhile, Brandi Harkness drove in the only run of the game in the first inning.  The second game of the doubleheader finished 1-0.
