The Mason women's tennis team traveled to Richmond on Saturday to take on the Spiders. The Patriots were defeated by the nine-time A-10 champions 0-7.
"This shows us what the top tier in the A10 looks like", commented Coach Stephen Curtis. "The Spiders have been top in this conference for the past ten years. It shows us where we need to be to compete. They are very tough to beat, especially on their home courts."
The Spiders opened the scoring by taking the three doubles to secure the singles point. Mason's #1 team of Morgan Yang and Olivia Lacy-Thompson as well as the #2 team of Ashley Delaney and Sofia Santa Maria, both fought hard but fell to the Spiders by identical 4-8 scores.
In the singles everyone fell in straight sets except for Marijke Boers who, playing in the #5 position, lost 1-6, 6-4, 5-10 to her Richmond opponent, Kelsey Williams.
