Mason women's tennis team completed the 2014 PTR Springfest in Hilton Head, South Carolina. After losing their opening two matches against 26th ranked Tarleton State and then Bucknell, the Patriots closed the week strong by defeating Michigan Tech and the 50 ranked DII team in the country, West Liberty State. 

Today the Patriots defeated the 50th ranked DII team in the country, West Liberty State, 7-2. 
The Patriots, playing the 9 point DII format, opened the match with a 2-1 lead following doubles victories by Ashley Delaney/Sofia Santa Maria and Marijke Boers/Mina Saygi.  Brittany Pilkington, Delaney, Boers, Saygi and Santa Maria were able to win their matches to finish off the Hilltoppers.

"I was pleased with our improved play, consistency, and intensity as the week progressed," commented Head Coach Stephen Curtis. "We needed to get used to playing outside and work through some health issues, but I was very proud of this young team during our last few matches. This trip was important for us to get ready for heavy stretch of our season." 

Playing a match on a HarTru surface for the first time, Mason was able to defeat Michigan Tech! 5-2 at the Long Cove Club Thursday evening. Mason won the doubles point as Boers/Saygi and Delaney/Santa Maria secured victories. The Patriots lost in the top two singles positions but #3 Delaney, #4 Lacy-Thompson, #5 Boers and #6 Saygi all defeated their Husky opponents.

Wednesday, in a rain delayed, shortened match, the Patriots lost a close 3-2 decision to the Bison from Bucknell. The match was highlighted by a tough battle at #1 singles as Brittany Pilkington defeated Elena Vidrascu 8-6. The second point for Mason came from the #2 doubles combination of Ashley Delaney and Olivia Lacy-Thompson as they defeated their Bison opponents, Michelle Urbinati and Jorie Fox 8-6.
