The tennis team extended their winning streak to three matches with a 3-2 win over Bucknell at the Van der Meer Tennis Center in Hilton Head, SC. Due to a rain delay the match format was changed to the 4+1 format, consisting of four singles matches and one doubles match. All matches played eight game pro sets.
Mason's Taylor Sargent and Tanner Baine dropped an 8-5 decision to Lynch and Tortora, and Jimmy Davis lost 8-4 to Nick Bybel at the one singles position. Mason then took charge with decisive wins at two, three, and four singles. At four singles Aaron Capital beat John DeFrancesch 8-2, Joe Hill scored an 8-4 win over Kyle Rosen at three singles, and Jimmy Lange gave Mason it's third point with an 8-3 win over Octavio Canibe 8-3, at two singles. The season record improves to 6-5 (1-1 in the A-10).
"This was a good win for us today. Last year we lost a close match to Bucknell. We have improved depth on the team this year, and that was the difference" said Coach Gary Quam. "With three wins in a row we now have good momentum going into tomorrow's match with SC State."
Mason next plays South Carolina State on Thursday March 13 at Chaplin Park, Hilton Head SC. Match time is 8:00 am.
