The Mason women's tennis team battled for more than four and a half hours on Saturday evening but came up on the short end of a 2-5 score to Towson at the Springfield Golf and Country Club.

The Tigers swept the Patriots in doubles play to earn the first point of the match.

"The Tigers came out on fire to start the doubles," stated Stephen Curtis, Women's Head Coach. "We just weren't able to get the momentum back."

The Patriots' Morgan Yang evened the score as she defeated Ayana Dow 6-0, 6-4. Brittany Pilkington put Mason up 2-1 when she closed out Nani Lizana 7-5, 6-4. Senior Captain Ashley Delaney battled but fell short against Lorena Ferrer, 6-7, 3-6 to make the score 2-2. Mason was unable to win in the last three singles spots but Esu Erdenebat was ahead 4-2 in the third set tie-breaker before going down with an ankle injury.

"I was very proud of how we fought, especially after loosing the doubles point. We will have to regroup, see how Esu's ankle is and get ready for JMU next Saturday," added Coach Curtis.

Mason falls to 2-5 while Towson moves to 2-0. The Patriot are back in action February 15 at 4:45 pm as they host James Madison at the Springfield Golf and Country Club.
