FAIRFAX, Va. – Seven members of the George Mason wrestling team made the trip to Mechanicsburg, Pa. to compete at the Messiah Open on Saturday.
Junior Blake Roulo, who is redshirting the 2013-14 season with the Patriots, competed at and won his weight class of 157lbs. Roulo used two major decision victories and three decision victories to win his bracket, including the 3-2 decision win over Drexel's Austin Rose in the final match. The Messiah Open is the is the second tournament that the junior has won this season, along with the Lock Haven Mat Town Open in early December.
Three of Mason's wrestlers also tabbed second place finishes on Saturday in their respective weight classes. Freshman Ibrahim Bunduka won all of his matches to reach the finals at 125lbs. where he was pinned by Rugters' Josh Patrick to finish second overall. Matt Stull reached the finals at 165lbs., narrowly losing 3-2 in his final match to Tyler Manion from Maryland.
Newcomer Patrick Davis was the final Patriot to earn silver, winning 2-1 in overtime of his semifinal match to reach the championship bout at 174lbs. where York's Tyler Rhoads defeated him.
Other finishers for Mason included Luke Ludke (149lb., 8th), Alex Gowers (157lbs., 5th) and Anthony Rossi (197lbs., 7th). 10 Patriots will compete in tomorrow's dual vs. conference opponents Bloomsburg.
