The George Mason men's tennis team rolled today to a 6-1 win against the University of the District of Columbia at Montclair Country Club. The Patriots improve to 2-1 on the season.
Mason took the doubles points after all three matches ended with a 6-4 score.
In singles action, Mason won five of the six matches. Three matches were won after two sets, including a close sweep at No. 6. Conor Moran defeated UDC's Drew Stewart, 6-1, 6-0. Jimmy Davis coasted to a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles and Nick Barker from the No. 5 position defeated Carlos Quiroga, 6-2, 6-4. At the top singles position Mason's Joe Hill lost the first set 4-6, but came back strong with 6-4, 6-2 wins in the next two sets.
The only Patriots setback was at No. 3 singles and it went the distance. Tanner Baine lost to UDC's Simon Anderson, 2-6, 6-5(4), 6-4.
The Patriots with play their first match in the Atlantic 10 against St. Bonaventure at Montclair Country Club on February 14.
