The George Mason women's track and field team moves into the Southeast regional rankings at No. 12 after taking the top place at the Patriot Games this past weekend.
“We are thrilled our women are recognized for the outstanding season they've had so far but we know we've got a lot more to go,” said head coach Andrew Gerard.
The women have been led by senior Mandissa Marshall , who has taken the pole vault title in each of the four meets she has competed in. Mashall currently holds the 10th spot nationally with a distance of 4.52m at the Hokie Invitational held the weekend of Jan. 25t. Fellow senior Daianna Barron has also contributed to the Patriots early success. Barron is currently among the top 50 female athletes in the 400 (47th).
“Obviously, this is a credit to our top women, who are performing exceptionally well,” Gerard said. “But also to the development and depth of the whole program.”
Up next the Patriots split up with some heading to Boston for the Valentine's Day Invitational and others going to New York for the Armory Collegiate Invitational.
“We look forward to seeing what comes next as we enter the meat of our season in Boston and New York this weekend and then championship season with the A-10s soon after that,” Gerard said.
