The George Mason softball team will host its home opener this weekend for the 2014 Patriot Classic.  The tournament is set to take place on Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2.  The tournament was originally scheduled to start on Friday; however, inclement weather has forced Friday's games to be cancelled.

The Green and Gold lost their first two games of the season at the USC Upstate Tournament in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  The Patriots lost 2-0 to Ball State and 3-2 to host, USC Upstate.  After just two games, Brooke Blankenship leads the Patriots with a .400 batting average. Anna Blessing and Christina Gabriele both posted a 2.33 ERA in their first starts of the season.

SOFTBALL vs. Cornell

Notes:

Cornell comes into this game having played zero games in the 2014 season. However, senior Christina Villalon returns for the Big Red after leading the team last season with seven home runs.  Villalon also posted a .336 batting average and added a team-best 19 RBI. 

Also returning for Cornell is senior pitcher Alyson Onyon.  Onyon led the team with 15 wins last season and posting a 3.33 ERA.

Notes:

Army comes into this game after winning their last outing against George Washington.  The Black Knights previously lost eight games in a row.  Sophomore Kasey McCravey comes into the tournament on a hot streak, owning a .519 batting average.  McCravey also has added a home run and team-best 5 RBI.
