George Mason battled until the final buzzer, but came up just short to Winthrop losing 7-6 on Sunday afternoon at George Mason Stadium.
The Patriot's Megan Bisson got the scoring started with a goal two minutes into the match for her first goal of the season. Wintrop responded with three unanswered goals giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead with 10:26 to play in the first half. Rachel Obregon found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season on a free position shot and Katie Mascolo registered her first of the season sending the Patriots into the break trailing 4-3.
Obregon didn't waste much time tying things up when play resumed getting her fifth goal of the season just over a minute into the second half. The Eagles however responded taking a 6-4 lead with 17:27 to play. Mason kept fighting though, with Caitlin McGinn getting her second goal of the season off an assist from Jacquelyn Spalding bringing the Patriots within one. After a free position goal from Winthrop, Spalding would make one of her own to keep Mason in the game. However, the Patriots would miss two shots with a minute remaining to seal the loss.
The Patriots return to action March 2nd when they host Longwood at 1:00 P.M.
