The Patriots men's tennis team dropped a close match as Davidson edge Mason, 4-3 in a match that lasted more than four hours at Monclair Country Club. The match came down to a tiebreaker in the final singles match, which went the distance.

Mason took the first point winning two of the three doubles matches. The doubles point was decided by a tie-breaker at #2 doubles.  The Patriots team of Taylor Sargent and Tanner Baine edged out Evan Waktins and Ethan Kallick 8-7, (7-5). Mason's Jimmy Lange and Joe Hill earned the other doubles win at #1 with an 8-5 victory against Davidson's Zapatero and Evan Kallick.

Jimmy Davis's 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) win against Robert Lightbourn at #1 singles gave Mason a 2-0 lead. Davidson gained a point as Evan Kallick overcame Aaron Capitel 6-3, 6-2 at #4 singles. At #2 singles Jimmy Lange lost the first set 6-3, but battled back to take the second set 7-5, before falling 7-6 (7-3) in the third set tiebreaker.

 With the match score at 2-2 Joe Hill beat Davidson's Evan Waktins 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 in a hard fought three set match to give Mason a 3-2 lead. At #6 singles Conor Moran fell to Alex Howard of Davison 6-3, 6-4. With the team score tied at 3-3  the outcome would be determined at #5 singles. After losing the first set 6-3, Mason's Tanner Baine found his game and took the second set 6-3 from J.B. Gough. The third set went to a tiebreaker where Gough managed a 7- 6 (7-5) win.

Mason next travels to Annapolis on Sunday, February 23 to play Navy.
