FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling (6-17) team scored three points in a 35-3 loss to the University of Maryland (9-8) on Senior Night on Thursday.
Three of Maryland's wrestling were ranked in the top-10 of their respective weight classes according to the latest NWCA/AWN rankings. Weight classes 184 through 285 each held a ranked wrestler for the Terrapins, including number one Jimmy Sheptock at 184lbs.
Greg Flournoy was the only Patriot to win his match on Thursday. Flournoy defeated Danny Orem 10-5 in the 157lb. weight class to put three points on the board for the Patriots, his 17th win this season.
Sahid Kargbo lost a close contest with Shyhiem Brown, going down 1-0 at 141lbs., while Matt Meadows and Jake Kettler kept it close against ranked opponents, falling 5-3 and 4-0, respectively.
Matthew Huffstickler, Seth Roberston, Chris Rodriguez and Shohei Takagi were honored as graduating wrestlers.
Next up for the Patriots are the 2014 Eastern Wrestling League championships in Cleveland, Ohio. The conference tournament takes place on March 8 and is hosted by Cleveland State University.
