FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason senior and second baseman Chris Cook has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Baseball Player of the Week as announced on Monday afternoon.
Cook was a part of the Patriot offense that scored 43 runs in three games over the weekend to start the season with a 3-0 record. He returned to the starting lineup this season after a medical redshirt in 2013.
Following the wins over Morehead St. and USC Upstate, Cook finished the weekend going 8-13 at the plate for a .615 batting average while contributing two homeruns, five RBI and nine runs scored on offense, a team high. Cook also leads the team in slugging percentage (1.231) and on-base percentage (.706) through the first three games.
The senior started off the season with a 2-3 performance in Mason's first contest against Morehead St. on Saturday, scoring two runs and brining home three on a three-run homerun while also drawing a walk. Cook continued in game two of the afternoon vs. USC Upstate with three hits in five plate appearances with one RBI, a solo homerun for his second of the season, while scoring two more runs. He scored a team high five runs in the 22-5 win over Morehead St. on Sunday, again going 3-5 from the plate with an RBI as he reaced base a total of five times in the game.
Mason continues play on Thursday, February 20 when the team returns to South Carolina for four games, beginning with a matchup against Coastal Carolina at 4 p.m.
