The George Mason baseball team opens its season in South Carolina for the second consecutive season on Saturday. The Patriots play their first of two games against Morehead St. over the weekend at noon. Mason baseball begins its first season in the Atlantic 10 Conference and comes off of a 18-35 slate last season, 7-20 in the Colonial Athletic Conference.

Morehead St. finished with an overall record of 16-40 as part of the Ohio Valley Conference in 2013, going 10-20 against conference opponents. The Eagles return key hitters at the plate in junior Kane Sweeney and sophomore Alan Mocahbee along with starting pitchers Blake Smith, Tyler Keele and Noah Smallwood.

Mason is scheduled to play its second game of the day against USC Upstate at 5 p,m, The contest was originally scheduled for Opening Day on Friday, February 14, however due to inclement weather conditions the game is rescheduled for Saturday.

The Spartans finished eighth in the Atlantic Sun conference in 2013 with an overall record of 28-30, 9-18 in conference. USC Upstate returns three starters at the plate and one starting pitcher from last season. Key losses included losing top hitter Trey Richardson along with five additional hitters and four pitchers
