The George Mason wrestling team (2-2) fell to the Navy Midshipmen (1-0) by the score of 23-9 in the first home dual of the season for the Patriots.
Starting at 149lbs., the Midshipmen were able to win the first six matches of the afternoon. Ryan Hunsberger and Greg Flournoy narrowly lost in 2-0 and 2-1 decisions, respectively as Navy would also win the next three matches for a 17-0 at intermission.
Redshirt senior Jake Kettler continued his strong start to the season as he won Mason's first match of the afternoon at heavyweight. Tied 1-1 going into sudden victory, Kettler managed a takedown early in the period on the edge of the mat for the 3-1 win, improving his record to 4-0.
Ibrahim Bunduka and Navy's Brendan Campbell battled until the final seconds, when Campbell was able to earn a late escape with under 15 seconds remaining in the match for a 4-3 win at 125lbs. Vincent Rodriguez and Sahid Kargbo ended the day on a high note, winning their matches at 133lbs. and 141lbs. by the scores of 3-1 and 8-4, respectively.
Mason is back on the mat Sunday, November 9 when they travel up to College Park for a dual with Maryland at 2 p.m.
