The George Mason wrestling team hosts its first dual of the season on Saturday, November 8 against Navy. GoMason.com caught up with freshman Matthew Voss in this installment of Rookie Wrestlers.
GoMason.com: What factors helped you choose to attend George Mason University?
Matthew Voss: Factors that lead up to myself choosing George Mason were receiving an excellent education combined with the opportunity to wrestle at the Division I level for one of the best coaches in the country.
GoMason.com: What would you say is your favorite thing about George Mason?
Voss: My favorite things about GMU included the diversity on campus and its positioning in relationship to Washington D.C.
GoMason.com: What are some things you looking forward to now that you are wrestling at the collegiate level?
Voss: The thing that I am most looking forward to is becoming a way better wrestler than I was before.
GoMason.com: How has practice and training been so far this season?
Voss: If I had a favorite part of practice, it would have to be live wrestling because of its similarities to wrestling an actual match.
GoMason.com: What kind of goals do you have for the upcoming season?
Voss: As a redshirt, my goals this year include going to open tournaments and learning what it takes to be a successful collegiate wrestler.
GoMason.com: Which meets are you looking forward to attending this season?
Voss: I am looking forward to when we wrestle Grand Canyon because I have several friends on the wrestling team.
GoMason.com: What is one thing that you would like people to know about you?
Voss: I like to talk to people.
