FAIRFAX, Va. – GoMason.com went off the course with Michael Conway, a fifth-year senior from West Hartford, Connecticut. Conway has been a big part of the Patriots success so far this season. The distance runner won the James Madison Invitational and the Mason Invitational this season to help the Green and Gold to a top 10 ranking in the Southeast Region by USTFCCCA.
Most recently, Conway finished second overall and first for Mason at the Atlantic 10 Championships last Saturday on his way to All-Conference honors. Conway's efforts also helped the men's team win its first A-10 Championship.
GoMason.com: Why did you choose to run for George Mason?
Conway: I chose to run for George Mason because I wanted to run for a coach that was very accomplished and had proven success. One of the great things was the distance program was still building when I came in and I have gotten to see it develop over the last 5 years. Academically George Mason was always on the top of the up and coming schools list, and the proximity to Washington DC was a huge draw.
GoMason.com: What are your thoughts on winning the A-10 Championship?
Conway: Winning the A-10 Championship was great, being a fifth-year senior and being able to finish my A-10 cross country career with a team win was awesome. I think we surprised a lot of teams by winning and I think we can continue to have success at the NCAA regional meet on November 14.
GoMason.com: Who is your inspiration for running, who do you look up to the most?
Conway: Someone who I look up to as an inspiration for running would be Everett Hackett. Everett ran for George Mason from 2008-2013 and had a lot of success individually and helped lead Mason to some great team performances.
GoMason.com: How do you spend your free time?
Conway: Outside of running I spend most of my time doing work for graduate school, but when I have free time I like to relax and watch TV or read a book.
GoMason.com: Some of your favorites?
Conway: Song: Jackie and Wilson by Hozier
Sport other than XC: Football and baseball.
Food: Pizza
Movie/TV show: House of Cards and Homeland
