FAIRFAX, Va. - Included in Mason's strong performance at the Potomac Relays on Friday, October 3 were three new meet records set by the men's swimming team.
Senior Travis Lauri made his mark with a time of 20.66 in the 50-yard freestyle, breaking the 14-year old record of 21.12 set by American's Mark Liscinksy in 2000. The time also sets a new pool record, breaking the time of 21.07 set in 1998 by George Washington's Tim Champnay and Adam Prem of James Madison University in 1999.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lauri, Zepher Begnell, Colin Schwartz and Jesse Burnley also recorded new meet and pool records in a time of 1:24.02. The old meet record of 1:25.90 belonged to American in 1998 while the old pool record of 1:25.80 belonged to a separate American team, set in 2007.
Lauri was also involved in a third meet-record performance as a member of the 3x100 butterfly relay team along with Matthew Lynch and Daniel Camozzo. The trio set a new mark of 2:32.01, breaking the old record of 2:35.91 by nearly four seconds. The previous meet record was also set by the Patriots at las year's event.
The swimming and diving team return to the pool on Friday, October 10 at Navy.
