Two days after reaching the doubles finals Nick Barker and Aaron Capitel lead the Patriots in singles play at the UVA Fall Classic. Aaron Capitel advanced to the quarterfinals of the Black singles, beating Darragh Glavin of ODU 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. In his quarterfinal match Capitel lost to Ismail Merino of ETSU Merino 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Capitel gained an additional victory over VCU's Jacob Svensson, 6-4, 1-6 (11-9) to claim 7th place in the 16 player draw.
Barker advanced to the quarterfinals of the Gold singles with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over JMU's Mijan Ruzic. In the quarterfinal matchup Barker fell to Norfolk States Daniel Grauel 6-1, 6-1. Barker went on to finish in 7th place with a walk over in his final match.
“We like playing this tournament because the competition is very good, with some of the best teams in the region participating. While Nick and Aaron advanced the furthest everybody on the team had wins here. With the Fall Regionals coming up the matches this weekend were good preparation for whats to come”, said Coach Quam.
The Patriots return to UVA October 16-21 for the ITA Fall Regional Championships.
