The George Mason wrestling team begins its season on November 2 with duals against VMI, Anderson and Virginia. GoMason.com caught up with freshman Austin Harrison before the season in this installment of Rookie Wrestlers.
GoMason.com: What factors helped you choose to attend George Mason University?
Austin Harrison: Mainly academics. But I really liked the atmosphere when you're on campus.
GoMason.com: What would you say is your favorite thing about George Mason?
Harrison: The people I've met thus far in my college career.
GoMason.com: What are some things you looking forward to now that you are wrestling at the collegiate level?
Harrison: I can't wait to travel, compete in National Tournaments, and eventually (become) All American.
GoMason.com: How has practice and training been so far this season?
Harrison: Practice has been nice and arduous, definitely a step up from high-school. I've seen a lot of my strengths surface, but also areas that need to be improved upon.
GoMason.com: What kind of goals do you have for the upcoming season?
Harrison: I want to be a starter at the 174lb weight class. Also I want to learn and improve as much possible over the next year.
GoMason.com: Which meets are you looking forward to attending this season?
Harrison: The Southern Scuffle, The Grapple at the Garden, and the National Tournament are the ones that stick out to me at the moment.
GoMason.com: What is one thing that you would like people to know about you?
Harrison: Something I'd like people to know about me is that I'm a momma's boy. I love my mom to death and wouldn't be half the person I am today without her.
