Mason tennis players sophomore Jimmy Lange and senior Joe Hill were the two remaining Patriots players in the Atlantic Fall Regional Championships this weekend and both fell in second round matches at UVA today. Lange lost to 7th seeded Thai-son Kwiatkowski of UVA 6-2, 6-3 and Hill fell to Penn State's Roman Trkulja (seeded 17-32) 6-4, 6-2.
"Only the best tennis players in the region are invited to compete in this tournament, and every match is going to be hard," said Coach Gary Quam. "We had just two players accepted into the main draw, but we had three guys battle their way through the qualifying rounds to earn a spot in the main draw. We had more guys get through qualifying than any other team at the tournament."
"In the first round Joe Hill and Jimmy Lange played great tennis to beat two tough opponents in the main draw. We also had a first for Mason Tennis in having Joe and Jimmy seeded in the doubles draw,” added Quam.
Coming up for the Patriots on Sunday October 26 at 12:00 pm is the Green and Gold, a men's and women's inter-squad event.
