RICHMOND, Va. – The George Mason men's swimming team defeated Davidson in its two-day long dual by a final score of 229-179 while the women fell to Richmond on the second day of the Richmond Duals.
The men had an advantage of 116-88 coming into Saturday and outscored the Wildcats 113-91 on the second day of competition. After defeating Duquesne on Friday, the women were defeated by defending conference champion Richmond, 163-134.
Double winners on the day included Madison Baker in the women's 100-yard freestyle (10:31.18) and 400-yard IM (4:36.19) and Steff Maurer, who after winning once on Friday claimed three first place finishes on Saturday. Maurer won the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.29), the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.79) and the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:06.52.
Travis Lauri once again won in the 50 and 100-yard butterfly with times of 22.69 and 51.12, respectively. He also anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay made up of Zepher Begnell, Alec Morin and Colin Schwartz (1:23.81).
Craig Steven won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:40.39 after winning the 1650-yard freestyle on Friday. Paul Helfgott again led the way in diving, winning the three-meter competition with a score of 261.85. William Clendenin won the 400-yard IM (4:05.32) to follow up his victory in the 200-yard IM yesterday. Craig would finish second in the event.
Sydney Fisher picked up her second victory of the weekend in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 23.93.
The Patriots host their first meet of the season on Saturday, October 25 when Delaware visits at 1 p.m. at the Aquatics and Fitness Center.
