Annapolis, Md. - The George Mason swimming & diving team fell to Navy in its first dual of the season in Annapolis, Md. on Friday.
The Midshipmen defeated the men's team 162-133 and the women's team 169-128, moving both teams to an early season record of 0-1.
Mason claimed first in 13 events, with teams kicking off the meet by winning the 200-meter medley relay. Kara Tansill, Amy Tansill, Sydney Fisher and Steff Maurer won the event in a time of 1:58.91 while the men's team of Jesse Burnley, Johann Shim, Travis Lauri and Zepher Begnell took first with a time of 1:45.23.
Maurer and Fisher also won their individual events, earning first in the women's 200-meter freestyle (2:06.70) and the 50-meter freestyle (26.91), respectively. The two were members of the first-place finishing 400-meter freestyle relay along with Kelsey Sorensen and Jill King in a time of 4:00.04.
On the men's side Lauri and Burnley also swam in the first place men's 400-meter relay along with Daniel Camozzo and Colin Schwartz in a time of 3:32.24 while Lauri was first to touch the wall in the 50-meter freestyle with a mark of 23.32. Among other winners was Matthew Lynch who won his first race as a Patriot, the 200-meter butterfly in a time of 2:05.19 and Brandon Nestor, a winner in the 400-meter freestyle with a finishing time of 4:06.42.
Mason jumps in the water next on Friday, October 10 for the Richmond Duals, involving A-10 opponents Richmond, Duquesne and newcomer Davidson.
