Wrestling Heads to Hampton, Va. for Virginia Duals

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling will head a few hours south to Hampton, Va this afternoon to compete in the Virginia Duals on Friday, January 10 and Saturday, January 11 at the Hampton Coliseum.

The Patriots will be competing in the National College Tournament bracket with 13 other teams in a team-dual bracket format. First up for Mason is fellow Eastern Wrestling League member and sixth-seeded Rider University on Friday at 11 a.m. The next round opponent will be either third-seeded Virginia Tech or the University of Nebraska-Kearney depending on win/loss results.

Mason is 4-7 in duals this season, most recently falling to Gardner-Webb University 23-16 on Sunday. Redshirt sophomore Greg Flournoy and sophomore Sahid Kargbo currently share a team-high seven dual wins this season in 11 matches. Flournoy is also tied with Vincent Rodriguez for a team-high three major decision victories this season while Kargbo leads the squad with three technical falls and is tied for second with two pins.

Rider is coming into the Virginia Duals off of a 25-13 loss to Harvard, dropping them out of the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll. The Broncs are 6-3 in dual matches this season with additional losses to top-ranked Penn State and no. 14 Edinboro. Redshirt sophomore Robert Deutsch is ranked 16th in the country at 125lbs. by Amateur Wrestling News, boasting a record of 14-4 this season and will be seeing action against Mason on Friday.
