The Women's Tennis team had a successful outing at the Mary Washington Kick-off Classic this weekend in Fredericksburg, Va. The Classic was a flighted event with the host Eagles as well as Mason, Delaware State and Washington & Lee.
Mason was led by Senior Captain Ashley Delaney who partnered with Esu Erdenebat to win the B Doubles Flight. New comer Jamie Cochrane cruised through the D Singles Flight, only dropping a total of eight games.
"I was pleased with our performance this weekend," stated Coach Stephen Curtis. "With six freshmen and a first year transfer you never know what you're going to get this early in the season."
In the A Singles Flight, Brittany Pilkington made it to the championship round and Morgan Yang made it to the consolation finals before both had to withdraw with health issues. Mason had a solid performance in the B Singles Flight with Marijke Boers making it to the finals, Sofia Santa Maria finishing third and Ashley Delaney winning the consolation. Esu Erdenebat made it to the consolation finals of the C bracket. Jamie Cochrane won the D Singles Flight.
In the doubles competition the team of Boers and Yang won the A Flight consolation while Dealney and Erdenebat won the B Flight. Also in the B Doubles Flight Olivia Lacy-Thompson and Mina Saygi finished third while Cochrane and Alex Miller made it to the consolation finals.
Mason heads to the Naval Academy next weekend to participate in the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational.
